What's an Equinox?
The equinox happens when the earth passes through Sun's geomagnetic center. An equinox happens twice a year around March 20 & September 22. The movement of the sun directly passes on the Equator. On September 22,  the day and night will be almost equal in most locations.
September Equinox.[Northern hemisphere]
Say goodbye to summer:
Yeah, Say bye-bye to Summer in Northern Hemisphere. Now the Fall[Autumn] Starts today. Then on December Solstice, Autumn ends, Winter starts!
Welcome Back Spring![Southern hemisphere]
In the Southern hemisphere, spring[vernal] begins!
Astronomers consider it as the 1st day of spring in the Southern hemisphere.
Some Amazing Facts:
In 2021, the Sun will cross the celestial equator from north to south on September 22, at 19:21 UTC. Because of time zone differences, the equinox will take place on September 23, 2021, at locations that are at least 4:30 hours ahead of UTC.

The etymology of Equinox comes from the word: Aequinoctium. If we translate it to English we will get 'equinox'. Nox means night.
Early Moon rising
Generally, a moonrise happens around 50mins later than the previous day. But  September equinox is near Harvest moon. So, it happens earlier than usual.
Why does it happen?
This is known as the Harvest moon effect. This is because of Low angle of the moon's orbit at a particular time.
This only happens for the Southern hemisphere.
